THE PSYCHOLOGY OF COLORS
Colors speak all languages.
Colours are momentous. Just think of your coke being achromatic? Can you imagine your Fanta bottle colourless?
Sounds weird, right?
Nobody can disregard the prominence of colour while you talk about life, marketing, branding so on and forth.
But do you know almost all the brands follow colour psychology that has an impact on your behaviour simply; it speaks to you unconsciously.
Without your knowledge visuals affect your actions. It comes under non verbal communication.
The colours blue, black, red, yellow or even purple have something to say to you.
Let’s just get an insight into psychology of major colours.
Black is an ambivalent colour. Did you ever notice logos’ of APPLE, DISNEY, NIKE, ADIDAS and MTV? All these logo have something in common i.e. the colour BLACK. For many consumers, it is symbol of opulence, sway, and ascendancy; this could be easily traced in lifestyle classification. Brands like BMW and PRADA use black colour to convey supremacy. But at the same time black colour is perceived as the symbol of misfortune by middle class Indians.
Pink is conventionally attributed to females. That is why pink colour is closely linked to feminine products. Pink is also the colour of babies and tender feelings.
Thus brands like Johnson & Johnson uses pink colour for their products packaging. Ever noticed in which colour is Barbie written?
Apart from feminity and tenderness pink is used to convey feelings like warmth, nurturing, love and sweetness. But the trend is changing T-mobile is using pink logo so as to attract the youngsters. it is taken as a sign of coolness.
Red is used to convey excitement, boldness and youthfulness. That’s why brands like KFC and PIZZA HUT uses red colour.
It also represents intensity, passion, trust and emotions. Did you ever notice KELLOGS AND COCA COLA?
The red colour is so prominent today that any new company entering the market automatically set it aside due to the fear of getting lost.
The colour blue conveys trust. It tells that the brand is dependable. The Intel logo is made up of blue colour; the State Bank Of India has its logo in blue colour.
Apart from trust, blue is a conveyer of conservatism. Just remember the logo of twitter and Facebook in your mind and you will understand.
Ever noticed emojis on your Whatsapp? They all are made up of almost one colour namely yellow. Yellow represents joyousness, juvenility and buoyancy.
Yellow colour is used by brands like NIKON, DHL so on and forth.
A color is as strong as the impression it creates.
Thus the importance of colours in branding and marketing can’t be ignored and the colours will keep dominating the brands.
Traditional marketing vs. digital marketing
Still stuck with traditional marketing? Still struggling to distribute your pamphlets’ all over the market. All business struggles with traditional marketing at one point or the other.
Traditional marketing refers to marketing through every other marketing source except digital marketing; it includes TV advertisements, brochures, and billboards, advertisements on newspaper, magazines and so forth.
Now, what is digital marketing, a question asked by almost every marketer?
Digital marketing refers to advertising through the digital means such as websites, social media such as Instagram, Snapchat, Instagram, YouTube, Emails and so forth. This is digital era and no one can deny the fact that there are immense possibilities in digital marketing.
Which way a company will get bang for its buck is the core of this comparison?
Juxtaposition between digital marketing and traditional marketing
As far as cost is concerned digital marketing is the most cost effectual. If we talk about billboards, the print cost is costly and getting it up is another tedious task.
But we can’t out focus the approach of newspaper advertisement. But overall digital marketing is better because of its approach at a minimum cost. The customer overseas could be achieved at the same cost a billboard is setup for a local audience.
With just a single click million of users could be achieved with the help of digital marketing but isn’t possible in case of traditional marketing.
Traditional marketing is limited to a particular audience but digital marketing approach is limitless.
Going digital means you can have an eye on the number of visitor, the conversion, the purchases sales and so forth but it’s impossible in case of traditional marketing. The billboards are seen by the people but how many gets in to purchase or finally becomes the customer always remain unknown.
The digital marketing follows two way communications but it seems vague if we talk about the traditional marketing. The advertisements we get in newspaper are just the print and message conveyed by the advertiser it doesn’t involves their reaction. But in case of traditional marketing the consumer perception becomes the foundation of marketing.
If we talk about traditional marketing how often have you seen anything getting viral due to billboards or magazines? It’s as rare as it seems. But it’s common if we talk about digital marketing. Digital marketing paves way to globalization.
People believe that internet is just another home for fraudsters. But we shouldn’t neglect the fact that what has virtual presence has physical presence too thus the fraud depends on our level of awareness. Thus the fact that digital marketing isn’t effective and efficient should be waved off. The traditional marketing is tangible but it doesn’t guarantee the reliability.
All business struggles with determining which one to espouse, whether it should be traditional marketing or it should be digital marketing or both. The quest of one surpassing the other continues. It’s the digital era and no one can deny the fact that digital marketing is getting prominent. We can’t say just traditional marketing should be waved off because after digital marketing, the traditional marketing comes into play.
Just imagine a life without social media, got a minor heart attack? Don’t worry its normal. You ask anybody who is on the social network and they will suffer the same. What’s social media? In normal terms, social media is a channel of communication like Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube etc.
Social media is criticized as well as liked by many. People believe social media has to lead to the seclusion of many but people forget those people are already introverted. If you talk about a person like me I being an introvert, like social media because there, I do not have to think before speaking, I can be ME, I don’t get petrified with the insights of people because I know I am in a virtual world.
Social media has paved the way to effective communication by almost everyone out there screaming to be heard. I am an earnest believer of the pros of social media.
People who earlier had no friends due to various aberrations, now share deep bonds with people.
People who stammer, now socialize very fast with the help of messages, pictures etc.
Nobody can judge you like the people in the real world do.
Media can be instant as well as tedious. The time we get in between helps us in coming up with greater ideas, views, and thoughts.
Who won’t love to get socialized? You can interact with your ideas on Twitter, you can follow them on Instagram, you can talk to your friends overseas and you don’t get trapped by that anxiety.
I am a firm believer of social media’s contribution to socialization. Social Media have tied the world together. The sharing is not just of emotions but of ideas, of facts and figures thus has made the world a better place to live in.
